Infertility and Physical Health

Structural or physical problems can lead to infertility, including an abnormally developed uterus from birth, a blocked fallopian tube from inflammation or other conditions, such as TB, severe endometriosis, or large/multiple fibroids. Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormone disorder, and a leading cause of infertility in the US. In addition, 40 percent of infertile women struggle with ovulation disorder and luteal phase defect, both of which are treatable with modern medicine used along with acupuncture and Chinese herbs. Poor diet, intense athletic training, being overweight or underweight, tobacco smoking, use of alcohol, and other health problems may all trigger infertility issues.

In general, 40 percent of infertility is male-based, including structural abnormalities, sperm production disorders, ejaculation disturbances and immunologic disorders. There is no one effective treatment available for male infertility that is comparable to IVF for women. However, TCM has had proven success resolving these problems by increasing sperm production, both quantity and quality, and changing abnormal morphology .
